Winterferien Tag 8 - Špindlerův Mlýn - (english below)

Jubel bei der Einfahrt!

I did it!

And then I fucked things up...

Cheers at the entrance!

I did it! I rode the 18/19 and wasn't scared on the steep bits. It went down slowly and I still look like a beginner (like a lot of people today, by the way), but I wasn't scared and I didn't have to walk.

On the last few meters down to the lift, I threw my arms in the air!

And then I fucked things up...

One thing, in particular: I went back to the bus for a muesli and then did a second lap. Round 1 took just under an hour. Well fed, I went out with Piccio for a short while and then the sliding door wouldn't open. Neither did any of the other doors. And where was the key? Inside.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!

That's exactly what I was afraid would happen, namely that I would accidentally press this button.

That's why I always open the passenger door before I leave the bus in the morning to walk the dog. But apparently not at lunchtime.

I had locked myself out. It was really stupid, but I was in a good mood and had to laugh about it again.

In the end, I was really lucky: reception was open, another cool woman knew someone who was working here despite the Christmas vacations, 45 minutes later he was there, apparently an all-round handyman, and he got my car open again without any damage.

After a good hour in total and only 800 crowns (32€) everything was back in order. Meanwhile, the cool woman told me that this had happened to her once before, in the summer, in the mountains. However, she had to wait 6 hours for help and pay a crazy amount of money. She didn't say exactly what, but she had expected the handyman to take 1500 crowns from me. From now on, I'm a key neurotic and always carry it with me. You can't close the driver's door with the push button, that's smart, but if you don't use it, an accidental knock is enough.

Then it was already time for lunch and who knows if the universe hadn't saved me from something on the slope. My right butt cheek was already hurting now, but surprisingly not (as much) later on. Maybe it needed exactly this break.

Lap 2 went ok and then I still had a good hour until it got dark and decided to do one last lap - best lap. I did, and I enjoyed it. As I was traipsing down the slope for the third time (the transit from 18 to 19), I noticed that people were riding further down into the forest, not where I was. And it was really crowded today and why was I the only one traipsing down the slope? You could probably get into the 19 by driving and seriously: people are so comfortable, who would seriously set up a route where you have to walk a really long stretch? Nobody. Oh well. I got my information from another skier, but he probably always comes from the red slope and not from the other side like me. Someone who didn't really have a clue. No big deal, walking is good. And today I also saw quite a few people taking the lift back down. Some pedestrians, but also a few skiers, but then with their skis unbuckled because you can't ski out at the end. If I were to come here again, I now know that I can practice at Hotel Harmony to get started, then ski the 18/19 from here WITHOUT walking and that you can also use the short blue run with the drag lift up there, just as the first cool woman had recommended.

This is the aforementioned blue route (behind the trees on the right) with a drag lift down the third slope from the top.

I take back what she said about not knowing how to ski and say the opposite!

So I enjoyed round 3 with all my heart and when I was just before the last steep section, I stopped and cried with joy.

Up ahead, the trail descends steeply to the right back to the lift.

What an adventure with a happy ending!

I would say: I can now ski A LITTLE. The door to the world of winter sports is open. And snow in winter is sooooooo great! With all its ups and downs, it was a lot of fun in the end. I will do something like this again.
